Pioneer School

The Pioneer School is a collection of buildings that allows students to explore the lives of the early settlers living in the Sorell region.

Founded in 1979 by teacher and historian Moya Sharpe, the Pioneer School has grown to include many different buildings, all of which are full of

artefacts from the past. The buildings include: Draper shop, olden day school room, post office, doctor's rooms, blacksmith, old gaol and an

Aboriginal yarning circle. Each week, select classes from the primary school visit the Pioneer School to learn history in a hands on and practical

way.

The Pioneer School and Farm are great assets to the school. The Kitchen Garden program is fantastic and I'm loving not having to make school lunches due to the Paddock to Plate program!

As soon as we walk onto the school grounds or pass them in the shops…there is always a smile and a welcoming feeling. The staff are approachable, children smiling and seeing the lovely work displayed the children have done is wonderful.
