PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
I acknowledge, with deep respect, the traditional custodians of this land,
the Mumirimina people and pay my respects to Elders past and present, to
the Aboriginal people with us today and to the Tasmanian Aboriginal
community who continue to care for Country. I stand for a future that
profoundly respects and acknowledges Aboriginal perspectives, culture,
language and history.
Our School Values
Our Commitment: In partnership with community, we provide a welcoming school of choice that inspires and supports all learners to succeed as connected, creative and curious thinkers.
Hi everyone,
I can’t believe we are close to half way through term 2! Winter weather has arrived so please ensure that everyone is in school uniform and has school jumpers on in this cold weather.
We have had such a busy few weeks with AFL9s representing the school and moving into the finals, Interschool Athletics, Grade 6 interschool football and netball and interschool cross country coming up this week. Congratulations and well done to all competitors. You represented Sorell so well and we are really proud to have you out there in the community on our behalf! Thanks to all the staff who have supported these excursions as well.
We have also had a huge few weeks completing NAPLAN for grades 3, 5, 7 and 9. We have been very happy with the effort and attention students have paid to these assessments, which are used to support us to plan for improved learning at Sorell.
Our grade 10 students will begin their transition planning soon, looking at what will be the best pathway for them into year 11 and 12. The law has changed recently, and all students are required to be in full time education until grade 12, unless they receive a special exemption. Students will be hearing about the options on offer from Sorell School and other colleges including Rosny in the coming weeks. Please get in touch with the office if you have specific questions about how you can support your child to make an informed choice about options for year 11.
Driving past the school you cannot miss the progress of the Sorell School Redevelopment Project (the new Build) with walls and roofs and slabs popping up left right and centre! We are still on track to open our new Admin building later this year and our grade 3-6 building and 9-12 building in early 2023. We are currently looking at furniture and designs for the indoor spaces and will be consulting with staff and student leaders in the coming months. It is all very exciting to see it come together.

Welcome to Term 2.
Being at school is the best place for our kids. It’s where they learn and grow alongside their friends, and where they benefit the most.
Every COVID-safe measure is being taken, so that every student can learn in class safely.
If your child is well enough to attend school, being in the physical school environment is the best place for them.
From Week 5, small changes are being introduced to how we record attendance to support the transition back to face-to-face learning for students who have been learning at home during Term 1. If your child has multiple absences over the remainder of the year a medical certificate will need to be provided.
If your child has been learning from home, please contact the school to discuss how we can best support a safe and supportive transition back to learning onsite for your child.
We look forward to having all our students in class with us.

We met up with our Kinder Buddies and read some amazing story books and shared our stories with each other.

SORELL HOCKEY 2022 TERM 2
It was great to see Sorell put in a hockey team for Saturday morning at Cornelian Bay. The students have loved playing and we have been very competitive. Hannah Rawson and Olivia Bradshaw have been our captain and vice-captain leading very strongly both at training and on the game day. Sam Stein who has some ice hockey history behind him was our first to jink the ball several times exploding out of the congested packs. Matilda Paul did some fancy spins with the ball eluding her opposition. Baxter Rowbottom, Bonnie Brown and Eleanor Vaughn are the chasers who love those big hits. Lae’Lani Sebris played her first game last Saturday and you would think she has been playing all season. The team has gelled very nicely.
If you think your child would like to play a term of hockey please contact Mr. Lakos through the office or send me a message of Class Dojo.
Regards,
Mr. Lakos.
